The fundamental of color in graphic design is understanding the context in the final work. In this project, I created three patterns with similar layouts and different color schemes.

These three patterns reflect Love, Adventure and Horror.

I started by sketching different color schemes without thinking of plants.

When i was going through with the context of three words, they remind me of temperature and atmosphere. In my opinion, horror is related to cold, adventure is related with cool windy weather, and love is related with warm sunny day. During my process of color scheme, i had yellow, blue and red for my first choice. As i working on my color pallets, I decide to use a more autumn like color for adventure pattern. Sunflowers are bright and cheery and it is a symbol for summer. They symbolize loyalty, adoration and it is a happy flower. Dandelion always reminds me of my childhood time, we wandered in the garden, picking up the seeded flower, made a wish and blew away. They symbolize happiness and simple joy. The red flowers do not only includes poppy but all kinds of red flowers.  Even though red is associated with love, it is also associated with anger and blood. I want to use low key value for my horror pattern to create a scary atmosphere.

I chose to use oil pastel and watercolor brushes for my final design, i think it is a practical design not only for this project, but also  for packaging design as well.

I then started sketching plants from photo reference and my memory.  I test with different style and different forms.
